2009 Conference Topics

 

The topics of interest for scientific and technical papers included the following:

Distributed Media Applications

  • Integrated multi-content communications, integration of classical and new media applications
  • Creation or adaptation of content dedicated to specific user groups (e.g. personalised applications, social networks, knowledge sharing, etc.)
  • Digital cinema and immersive media environments
  • 3D Media, high dynamic range and high resolution video, and spatial audio
  • Tele-gaming, - learning, Interactive and multimodal applications
  • Applications for sensor networks, ambient services
  • Open software/tools for integration of multimedia communications applications (open gaming software, API for MM services, etc.)

Electronic Media Content

  • Rich media content, professional and non-professional content creation
  • Open and standardised tools for content creation, storage, and provision
  • Interoperability of various content formats, standard formats and access rules
  • Content Representation and Rendering
  • Content storage, indexing, and metadata, including search and selection engines for multimedia content
  • Content personalisation (e-g profession, geographic, and time dependent) and context awareness

Future Media Delivery Networks and Network Services

  • Autonomous networking and communications architectures, including dynamic network management
  • Multidimensional network interoperability (provider and technology handover)
  • Quality of Service and Quality of Experience in future networks
  • New architecture paradigms for future multimedia applications (3D, virtual reality, etc.)
  • Future Internet engineering
  • Media transport - content aware networks and network aware services
  • Home and Small Office networks, universal and seamless service provisioning

User Devices and Terminals

  • Integrated, scalable, and modular multimedia devices for home, portable and mobile devices
  • Auto-configuration and auto-maintenance of devices and terminals
  • Residential and home/small office gateways
  • Application programming interfaces for new media devices and terminals
  • Advanced user interfaces allowing natural interaction with the future media internet

NEM Enabling Technologies

  • Digital right management, security, authorisation, and authentication
  • Content adaptation (coding, compression, etc.) for particular devices/terminals and communications networks and services
  • Displays (2D, 3D), imaging, and human language technologies
  • Software and fast computing for solving complex autonomous functions and algorithms
  • Cross-layer and cross-technology network planning and system optimisation
  • Enhanced communication protocols and routing algorithms for end-to-end QoS
  • Dynamic network control, re/configuration, and autonomous network management, including security of network elements
  • New security, privacy and trust paradigms for media consumption

 

Information for authors

Important Deadlines

  • Paper submission deadline: 18 May 2009
  • Paper submission EXTENDED deadline: 15 June 2009
  • Notification of acceptance: 28 July 2009
  • Camera ready papers by 7 September 2009
  • Authors can apply for the reduced fees until August 31, 2009

Keep in Mind!

Papers have to be prepared in accordance with provided templates (word and acrobat versions) and must not exceed 6 pages. The final papers have to be uploaded exclusively in PDF format by using the paper submission tool.

Please, note that at least one author per paper has to register for NEM Summit 2009 BEFORE 15 August 2009 to ensure that the paper will be presented at the Summit 2009 and published in the Summit proceedings. One author registration can cover maximum two Summit papers to be presented and published. To register for the NEM Summit, please click here.

 

Technical Programme Committee (TPC)

A NEM Summit TPC has been formed, including members of the NEM community and other key representatives of the Networked Electronic Media field.

The role of the TPC is to set the concept of the event into details, supervise the Call for Papers process (topics, format, review process, deadlines) and approve the final conference agenda.
